Every month we add new titles to our Digital Drum Charts Library. Usually we do 3 a month, but we figured we'd up the ante and offer 5 this time around.
We're rollin' out the classics this month, with hits from The Doors, Aretha Franklin, Sam And Dave, Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes, and Robbie Dupree. Check 'em out below! "Riders On The Storm" as recorded by The Doors (1971) "Riders On The Storm" was one of the last songs the Doors recorded before Jim Morrison left for France and died a few weeks later. The 1971 recording, over 7 minutes long, went to #14 on the charts. The song had staying power, and is more popular now than it was then. The song has been used in several films (The Hitcher, 1986) because of its dark atmosphere. John Densmore provides the drumming. 4 Page Chart - $4.99 - Get Chart - Get Audio MP3 "If You Don't Know Me By Now" as recorded by Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes (1972) During the '60s, there were primarily two centers of soul music: Detroit and Memphis. By the early '70s there were three - Philadelphia was added to the list. The Blue Notes were formed way back in 1954, and recorded as early as 1956, but it took two decades to make a significant entry on the charts, which they did with "If You Don't Know Me By Now," which went to # 3 in 1972. Teddy Pendergrass does the very dramatic lead vocal. 2 Page Chart - $3.99 - Get Chart - Get Audio MP3 "I Thank You" as recorded by Sam And Dave (1968) Sam Moore and Dave Prater's exuberance on their recordings give strong evidence that their live performances were indeed "double dynamite." In 1968 Time magazine reported: "Nobody steams up the place like Sam and Dave ... Weaving and dancing, they gyrate through enough acrobatics to wear out more than 100 costumes a year." That year, the duo steamed up the charts with "I Thank You." 1 Page Chart - $2.99 - Get Chart - Get Audio MP3 "Think" as recorded by Aretha Franklin (1968) Aretha Franklin is called the Queen of Soul Music for a reason: she really is. "Think" was her ninth Top 40 hit. This 1968 hit features some of the same musicians on her previous chart hits: "Respect," "A Natural Woman," "Chain Of Fools," and "I Never Loved A Man (The Way I Love You)." For all of us drummers, you could not go wrong if you played like Roger Hawkins, the drummer on this soulful hit. 2 Page Chart - $3.99 - Get Chart - Get Audio MP3 "Steal Away" as recorded by Robbie Dupree (1980) Same feel as the Doobie Brothers' "What A Fool Believes." Nice drum chart. 2 Page Chart - $3.99 - Get Chart - Get Audio MP3 3.
